I began CrossFit in June of 2010 when I took the On Ramp with coach Colin. Prior to then, I had very little lifting experience, aside from what I learned on my own by going to Planet Fitness and lifting in high school (not much). However, I have always been extremely active and competitive my entire life, and by the end of my On Ramp, I knew CrossFit and I would be friends…or should I say brother-in-laws.
Growing up, I played football, baseball, and basketball, excelling the most at football where I played at Notre Dame of West Haven. However, extreme sports is where I was always the happiest. Skiing, skateboarding, BMX, snowboarding, wake boarding, long boarding (basically anything on a board) snow, dirt, asphalt, water, whatever, as long as I can go fast, flip, spin, jump, I’m in. To me, there is no greater feeling than being at the top of a mountain with 8-10 inches of fresh snow on the ground ready to ski until my legs fall off. That is where I am at peace.
I think exposing my body to such a wide variety of sports has definitely allowed me to excel at CrossFit as much as I have. It has given me excellent body control and awareness, which has allowed me to excel in gymnastics and olympic lifting. Favorite movement(s) – anything on the rings…and the snatch. Least favorite movement – running. Favorite color – blue. Favorite food – sushi. I love music and bacon too.
